Smuggling
Dial Post was well known for its smuggling activities.
Dial Post Village Witch
When a local man and his sons were bearing a coffin to the churchyard at West Grinstead, the Witch was seen to be following the little procession. Halfway there she declared that she would take a short cut and dissappeared, turning up again when they reached the church. Afterwards all the Bearers agreed that the weight of the coffin had increased when the Witch had dissappeared. It had become lighter when the old woman reappeared. They swore that she had made herself invisible and ridden on the coffin.
1998 Merger in Dial Post
The Village Hall Committee, The Dial Post Residents Association and The Dial Post Village Group combined their resources for a three month trial period. "The Dial Post Residents Committee" was formed after residents attending an Open Meeting about the development in the centre of the village, revealed that they were lacking in information regarding the village. It became apparent that due to lack of volunteers, not every household in the village received important information regarding their village. It was suggested that the three committees joined forces and this was agreed at a joint meeting that was held on October 13th 1998. The aims of the Dial Post Residents Commitee was the management and upkeep of the village hall, to keep residents informed of building and development plans for the village and to organise the social activities for Dial Post Villagers.
Dial Post Ballot 1998
A ballot was held for all the residents as to whether Dial Post wanted to remain within the Parish of West Grinstead but to become a Ward. This would entitle them to specific representation on the Parish Council.
Dial Post Bus Route
Around 1979, Dial Post, the Horsham to Worthing Road route, was much better served by the motor buses. In 1998, a new bus route had beeen created which would enable Dial Post residents to get back from Horsham after doing their shopping or visiting the library etc. The Metrobus  were running Service 86 from Horsham to Haywards Heath via Southwater, Dial Post and Partridge Green. The return bus did not go into Dial Post. The bus terminated at Princess Royal Hospital and ran about two hourly during the day. There is no longer a bus service that operates in the village due to the lack of use and the costs involved in stopping at the village. Residents are still battling to get a bus service back into the village.
10 New Houses On Dial Post Village green
The start of this development was planned for early November 1998. The development was to include 1.2 acres of open space donated to the Parish Council together with £12,105 towards the future maintenance. Concerns were raised by the residents of Dial Post on the surface water drainage, prevention of parking on the grass etc. The Developers were Bloor Homes. Planning permission was also granted in November 1998, for two 2 bedroomed houses on land adjacent to 1 Swallows Lane in Dial Post.
All the houses around the Green were sold not long after they were built and the residents are now part of the community.
